Petition Letter: I am appealing to waive the 21 Day Deadline. I had not received an email regarding my withdrawal for a year nor had I gotten a notification on Solus up until July. On July 8th, I noticed a tab under ?Holds?? with Req. to Withdraw for a Year and as soon as I had done my research on it I reached out to the ASC Academic Advising to learn more information and ways to appeal it. I have been receiving counselling in order to improve academically shortly after the Winter 2021 exams and am confident I can achieve a much higher GPA. I was given information on ways I could appeal the requirement to withdraw. As soon as I received the email I started writing out the appeal explaining my situation entirely and collecting the documentation to prove I had been attending counselling sessions to improve. I had submitted on July 21st but I was not informed about the deadlines to send in an appeal in the ASC Academic Advising email. I wish to send a proper appeal regarding my low GPA because I had no proof of my worsening mental health during the past school year up until April 20th when I had started my session. Though I started to seek professional help midway through the Winter semester, I could not apply for Long-Term Academic Consideration as it took around just over a month to be assigned to a suitable counsellor. I have been working hard for the past 4 months to achieve better academically by re-organizing my life after the mental setback and hope I can get a chance to redeem myself.

Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jill Atkinson,
I am appealing the Arts and Science Faculty's decision that I must withdraw from Queens for a year. I have already been granted approval to waive the 21-Day Deadline, which I would like to thank you for.
Two months into my grade 12 year, around the end of November, I had suffered from a terrible injury in my right ankle which resulted in breaking all three bones in my ankle joint. After this injury I had to go through 3 surgeries through November 2019 - April 2020. I was strictly bed ridden and confined in my room for 4 months for recovery. By the time I was able to start walking again it was the end of February 2020 and only after a couple of weeks of transitioning back into my daily life, Covid-19 took a turn for the worse and we were sent into lockdown. The past year and a half of lack of a proper life took a toll on my mental health greatly. I can say with certainty that the sudden change in lifestyle has affected all of us. Therefore going into that state of mind, I had no clue how to deal with it in a healthy manner. My family has always had a complicated relationship and during the Winter 2020 semester it got much worse. Right before exam time (April 8 to be exact), a court case was opened for my parents' personal relationship. The case was open until the end of May. My family was already falling apart months prior to the case and we are still trying to restore the relationship among us. At the time I felt as though my family needed my attention more than my education. Trying to fix these issues took a toll on my education as well as mental stability. I hope you can understand that I cannot legally provide documentation for this case as I am not involved in it. But being in a toxic environment as such for a year and half straight without very limited break from the situation at home made it almost impossible for me to get out of my depressive state. I lacked motivation and felt extremely negatively towards every aspect of my life, not only education. So I made a decision to get professional help through therapy in order to better my mental health starting April 20 2021. I have attended 10 sessions so far and I had mentioned my concerns with my education with my counsellor. It is listed on the legal document as 8 because I had received this documentation for my counsellor a month ago. Though it is not needed for me to disclose any diagnosis I have been given so far, I believe it is necessary to mention that I was advised to get a test for ADHD done when I had described my struggles with studying remotely.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: For the past 5 months I have been putting in my efforts to better my mental health and regain the motivation and confidence to succeed academically. I have managed to repossess control over my life in the last couple of months by getting into old hobbies and gaining a more positive outlook, but I will be continuing to go to these counselling sessions in order to maintain it. I have also scheduled an ADHD test to be done with my family doctor in case it is something that needs to be treated to prevent my education being affected further. If given the chance to continue my studies this semester, I would be moving to Kingston where I would be able to put my main focus on university instead of surrounding issues. I have also been creating day to day schedules in the summertime in order to fix my time management skills for the coming semesters. I will be staying on top of my studies by using the scheduling system I have been following during the school year as well and I will be willing to take every step with integrity to stabilize my GPA. My goal is to retake POLS and ECON and achieve a higher GPA in those courses. I will not take 5 courses this semester in order to focus more on each course. If there are further questions about the professional support I have been seeking, their office can be contacted via email (admin@iwantblance.ca). I have given them the consent to disclose whether I have made progress during my meetings. My student number is 20237881. Thank you for taking the time to read my appeal. I hope I can demonstrate my true academic potential in the coming semesters.
