Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

No one is more disappointed to write this letter than myself. After appealing once last semester, I hoped to never have to again. Despite changing my ways of academics, I still struggled especially within Physics 118. I chose to prioritize my other class, MATH 121, due to failing it last semester. While prioritizing, I continued to deal with constant depression and anxiety, regardless of treatment.
I am hoping to drop this course so that I can focus on my MATH 121 exam and grade.

Over the course of the last few months, I have suffered job loss as well as financial problems, which have taken a toll on my mental health. On top of this, continued academic stress and depression caused me to completely lose motivation, and not complete sufficient course work that would otherwise be possible. This would include attending classes and completing course work. I have been struggling quite hard throughout this pandemic and online school has been extremely difficult given my learning habits. I have been receiving help through my therapist in Bedford, Nova Scotia, who has encouraged me to do the best I can, and complete as much work as possible. I continue to see her and work thoroughly to understand the root of the problem, as academics are extremely important. This has led me to continue my course work in MATH 121 which is the most important right now. I believe the best option for myself would to drop this course and focus on the course I failed, MATH 121. I believe this will be the best option for my academics and a way to bring my GPA back up to a more successful number.

I always want to encourage that I continue to try my hardest and be a good student. I am forever thankful for having the opportunity to go to Queen's and I want to uphold the highest standard. This past year has been very difficult, and has shown me a new light of what can happen when depression is at its worst. I do believe this semester has not reflected me as a student, and that there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I know I will be able to prove myself academically this coming Fall, and hope to begin that path now.

Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
