Petition Letter: Hello, my name is Wakely Jibb and I am currently majoring in Biology, class of 2023. I am writing to appeal to drop my summer course after the term deadline. I was enrolled in PHIL 204- Life Death and Meaning.
I was struggling with many personal issues as the class had started. I was having terrible anxiety, trying new medications and my financial situation was becoming very challenging as contact with my mother was diminishing. With this, I was working two jobs and was struggling with keeping up to date with my summer course. I had reached out to the prof to ask for extensions and leniency however was still not able to manage his kind accommodations. A week after this had happened my friend Kamila who also attended Queen's had passed very unexpectedly.
This threw me for a loop and became the focal point of all my days. Along with loving and knowing Kamila, I was living with her best friend Kindra and was there to fully support Kindra through the tragic time. I was unable to even go near my Queen's email or course as it was highly triggering for me. The course I was enrolled in also happened to be Life Death and Meaning, which added another layer of confusion and anxiety around the entire situation.
I am unable to provide any supporting documentation, but I had been in contact with Lindsay Winger and had some back and forth correspondence and phone calls. If you are able to connect with her then that will be my 'supporting documentation.
I truly liked the material of the course and found it very interesting and something I think about a lot in my day-to-day life. The timing of the course just didn't fit the space I was in at the time, and as unfortunate as it is, I was unable to streamline my focus to completing the course to the best of my ability. I also would like to apologize for the late appeal, I had simply sent the email to the Faculty of Arts and Science Appeals and simply left it at that. I just wanted the whole process to be done, and with that, I had prolonged it.
