Petition Letter: I am writing to you today to request a late drop of the calculus course I attempted to take last year.
As you are aware from my previous appeal, I had a considerably challenging year, remote learning, away from my support network, away from home, but especially my mental health was extremely bad and I lapsed into a deep depression as confirmed by my physician. I thought that I had things in hand for second semester and managed to do ok in the two new courses I took but was too far behind in calculus and I couldn??t catch up. Compounding my anxiety, as you are aware, I lost my uncle in December, and as I headed into finals in April, my only Opa (grandfather) became very sick, was admitted to ICU and eventually passed on May 15th. He and I were very close as we lived in the same town my entire life and he and my Oma (grandmother) were very much a part of my life.
Late winter/early spring my doctor and I also made the decision to change my medication as we didn??t feel it was working well as my depression didn??t break. That one didn??t work either and am on another one now. My doctor has also referred me to a psychiatrist to help me get my meds and mood sorted and I have an appointment with her in early November (apparently they are difficult to get.
I took a course this summer and think I successfully completed it. I spoke with my parents and we agree that I am going to take a lighter course load till I fully get my mental health under control. I am seeing a councilor through Wellness Services and have connected with all their supports now. I??m really hoping, and will work for a better year in 2021/22 and just really want to clean slate to start out. I wish I would have deferred my year until my mental health was better but I honestly thought I could push through. I was wrong.
The late drop will give me this fresh start without the F hanging over my head. I don??t have a new letter from my doctor but can get one if required. I??ve attached the link of my Opa??s obituary, and you have my uncles from the last appeal. https://jamesreidfuneralhome.com/tribute/details/13630/Juan-Andres/obituary.html
Thank you so much for any consideration,
Marisa Pizzolato
