Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To whomever this may concern,

This letter is regarding the BIOL 102 course I was enrolled in during the summer 2021 term. Unfortunately, I received a failing mark, specifically a final grade of 46/100. This course is also a prerequisite for some of the classes that I need for my degree, ANAT 215/216, BCHM 218, and MICR 221. Due to a dislocated elbow that I injured once again this summer, my emotional, physical, and academic abilities have greatly suffered.

I would also like to address the ??Group Integration Assignment?, an assignment that underlies the importance of working as a group in order to be completed. After several attempts of communicating and reaching out to my fellow group members, only one had kept contact with me throughout the work period before the deadline. We had been assigned a Group Work Plan, which would clearly state what parts each member would have to do upon submission of the entire assignment. Being in touch with only one of these members, we had evenly divided the work load as planned. I was able to complete my part of the assignment, while still receiving no contact from the other group members. Once the deadline arrived, to my surprise, I had been informed that the one member that had been communicating with me was transferred to another group. I had spoken to her about the matter and she told me that I should have been spoken to or informed about this matter by the TA, yet I did not receive any information about this from the TA??s. The deadline time had come and I had submitted all that I have done, with no responses from the other group members, hoping they had finished other parts of the project. As a result, I have failed this assignment with a mark of 7/20, and was told that I could complete the rest of the assessment and submit it at a later time. This was very overwhelming, and at this point, I was really impacted by the matter because let alone my ability to only use 1 arm to type, I was simultaneously focusing on other course work and assignments that also had an impact on my grade.

Secondly, I had also been failed for the Virtual Research Lab Assignment, consisting of 6 parts, with 3 submissions. I had worked on the assignments during the work period and almost completely finished each designated part upon the submission deadline. However, I became very overwhelmed and stressed about the upcoming submissions so I was unable to completely finish each part before starting the next one. This led to a juggling act. I ended up finishing the assignments and submitting them late, understanding and taking full responsibility for this, as it was most definitely my fault and a result of my inability to manage the workload. I reached out to the professor and the TA about the late submissions, hoping that my work could still be considered for marking with some sort of penalty. However, I was told that the work will not be marked at all. This ultimately set me back, and put me in a further state of depression.

I am aware that I should have addressed this issue at an earlier time, however I really hope something could be done about this. Hopefully, the effort I was able to put into this course will not be dismissed, as I really did try my best to work at my fullest potential.

I am able to provide any documentation needed regarding my injury or any other supporting documents that are needed.

I appreciate your help in advance,

Alexander Makhmutov
