Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To the Associate Dean:
Request:
I am appealing to late drop the following courses: GEOL106, CLST205, PHGY170, FREN106, and PSYC271 (summer, 2021). This is due to a medical disability (with supporting documentation) that has now been fully resolved.
Explanation:
In early June, I began experiencing symptoms of a health condition that made it extremely difficult to get work done. Due to my condition, I began feeling nauseous and lethargic every day. Over the following two months, the nausea only got worse, and I was physically ill most days. Some days I'd try to fit 20-minute windows of screentime in, but that alone was very challenging.
About 9 weeks after learning of my condition and enduring the constant spells of nausea and fatigue, I have now resolved my condition. I went to have a medical procedure done (at KGH), which eliminated the source of my symptoms. Before I was able to have the procedure done, the constant sick feeling made it very difficult to learn how to manage the situation with my classes. I also didn't have many windows of time when I felt well enough to make phone calls or read/respond to emails.
Since I was confused about who to contact, I first scheduled a meeting with Ms. Varrette in QSAS. By the time we met to discuss the situation, she told me that I needed to talk to someone in the Registrar's office about late dropping my courses. After another week, I was finally able to reach someone from the Registrar's office, and she directed me to the Letter of Appeal page on the ArtSci website. I apologize for not being able to find this out sooner.
Attached are two forms signed by my doctor at Student Wellness. Now that I am fully recovered, I can read, type, and look at my screen for longer amounts of time, just as before my condition became apparent. In addition, I have already enrolled in three courses for the fall and look forward to continuing my studies in person this year. I hope this is enough information to support that the inactivity in my summer courses was due to a physical condition which was unplanned and out of my control, but it is now fully resolved.
Sincerely,
Maggie Caplan
