Petition Letter: Letter of Appeal ?? Jacoba Franks, 04243179
I am writing to appeal to drop PSYC 241 from the winter 2021 semester. I had been granted permission to complete the course over the summer, while having the course listed as IN on SOLUS.
The reason for my initial appeal to request the IN, was because I found that the impact that COVID was affecting my mental health and the impact that had on my ability to concentrate on my academics. I had hoped that over the summer I would be able to work on the two courses I was taking and complete them before the fall semester, however, I have found that I am still suffering from mental health issues and difficulty in completing the courses since I find it difficult to read the required information and retain the information.
I had a final essay and one assignment to complete for FILM 240 and I feel I will be able to complete thse before September, however, I have found that I have not been able to complete my work for the Psychology course as it requires you to retain a lot of information which you then apply to other concepts, and having difficulty retaining any information means I then have trouble applying the information to new concepts.
In addition to the impact that COVID and its restrictions have had on my mental health, I am also finding return to work (from working from home for the last 18 months) very stressful. I found that adapting to working from home took several months for me and have now found that returning to work is stressful as well.
In addition to all of the above, I am also a single mother who is dealing with children impacted by COVID and also in a position where I am responsible for my aging mother.
I believe if I had not been impacted by COVID as much as I have been, I would have been able to complete these courses without issue. I am incredibly committed to completing my degree, and given that I only had these last two courses to complete in order to do that, I find this to be a very disappointing and discouraging situation.
I appreciate your consideration of my request.
Take care,
Jacoba Franks, 04243179
