Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing to request a credit standing in my course for ENIN400. I believe my situation has the strong merits of a valid extenuating circumstance health related that was beyond my control that resulted in a D minus grade for ENIN 400.

On June 21st, 2021 I attended a Zoom meeting for my final group presentation for ENIN 400. The final presentation was a large component of my mark.

I logged on to Zoom at around 5:56 pm, for a 6:00 pm start time. Myself and my group members were waiting in the waiting room for at least 10 minutes after 6 pm waiting to be let into the meeting. I had to go to the bathroom due to an indigestion issue that I could not control because of something I had eaten an hour before. This was beyond my control and I could not delay the bathroom break because I was experiencing bad stomach cramps and diarrhea.

I had no information on the order of the presentations in advance, so I did not know my group would up first to present.

When I returned, approximately 10-11 minutes later, my group had already presented and I had missed the presentation.

This situation costed me a fail grade on this assignment, resulting in a poor mark as my final grade as the weighting on this assignment constituted a large part of my final grade.

As indicated above, although temporary and transient, the extenuating circumstance was unfortunate and not in my control. I have provided evidence and testimonials from my group members that I was present at the outset in the waiting room, and I have apologized to many individuals, and tried many avenues to try to reach a fair solution, including asking to meet with my professor, who refused on many occasions. My bathroom circumstance should never have resulted in such a harsh penalty in my opinion as there was little regard for an accommodation attempt by my professors.

I am asking for a credit grade in this course as the rest of my team members received over 80% on this assignment, and I also did all the work and preparations. I also took a leadership role in the presentation format, and feedback. I had ever intention of presenting that evening however, I had the misfortune to have a bad reaction to some food at the exact time my group and I were to present (which was not known to me) at that time.

The credit grade, in my opinion is fair and would very much assist me in my graduate applications. As noted on my transcript for the rest of this certificate- I did very well in the other courses and this credit would preserve my GPA for this certificate.

I very much appreciate your consideration for a credit grade in ENIN 400. Thank-you.
