Re: Request to waive one-term deadline
I am writing to request the one-term deadline to drop courses late be waived. This appeal is in reference to one course from the 2015-2016 Academic year, and four courses from the 2016-2017 academic year.
During all my time at Queen's and for several years afterward, I was dealing with significant physical and mental health issues, which became progressively worse as time went on. These health issues had an extreme impact on my studies at Queen's and all aspects of my personal life.
I will attach some supporting documentation from Student Wellness Services at Queens, and Dr. Arun Ravindran from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, confirming my physical and mental health issues during the time periods outlined above.
These issues, specifically my struggles with Anxiety and severe Depression, significantly impacted my thought processes and prevented me from submitting appeals before the deadline to drop these courses late had passed.
At the time, my ability to complete these tasks was greatly compromised by my mental health issues, and my future at the University was something I was not able to rationally consider.
In the past year, I have steadily made considerable improvements to my mental health, to the point where I am now able to consider returning to my studies in some fashion. Being permitted to submit a late appeal to drop some of the courses from my 2015-2016 and 2016-2017 academic years, which I failed due to my health issues, would be of a significant benefit to my academic future.
Thank you sincerely for your consideration,
Marko Piljevic
