Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear Board of Studies,

I am appealing the Associate Dean??s decision to deny my appeal to drop courses SOCY 389 and SOCY384.

I completely understand the need to assess appeals based on the full picture and that students need to take responsibility for ensuring we understand and comply with the Academic regulations.

I struggled last year with the lockdowns and remote learning. I know this I was not alone in that. I decided to take two courses this summer as I was feeling anxious about getting behind. When I registered for those courses I certainly didn??t anticipate that I would experience a very serious crisis which would result in hospitalization and directly impact my ability to complete the courses I registered for and to manage complying with the Academic regulations.

I received the request from the Associate Deane for additional information from my Dr. I called the Dr??s office and was asked to forward the request for Dr Joyce??s response. This whole process took time as their office is very busy and doesn??t prioritize this type of request. The letter I received from Dr Joyce??s office and forwarded includes the information that you state was missing, my full name, Dr Joyce's contact information and her College of Physicians and Surgeons number. Please see attached.

Your suggestions for moving forward are very valuable and I will ensure that I carefully assess my situation and how things are progressing and will monitor my progress in order that to react in time to meet the course drop deadline if necessary.

I am planning to meet with an academic advisor to help me create an academic plan that I feel will be reasonable and manageable for me.
