Petition Letter
Petition Letter: I am appealing to spend a term abroad during the winter semester of my third year on a letter of permission. I hoped to have the experience of studying abroad during my third year, and was unable to be placed in my preferred universities through the bilateral exchange program. I instead hope to accomplish this international travel experience through an independent study abroad program.
I have chosen to apply to the University of Edinburgh, University College London and King??s College London, all of which are excellent educational institutions that would provide academic environments analogous to Queen??s. I desire to study abroad in order to further enrich the education that Queen??s has given me thus far by being emersed in a new culture, allowing me to develop even further as a student and global citizen. I have, and continue to love the environment that Kingston provides, however I crave the opportunity to push myself outside my comfort zone in a foreign country. This would provide me countless opportunities to gain new perspectives, all while seeking my independence in a novel environment. Permission to spend the winter semester of 2022 studying independently abroad would be an enriching experience both academically and personally, teaching me invaluable skills that would benefit the Queen??s University community upon my return to campus in fourth year.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Written support for my appeal has been granted from the faculty of Arts and Science through the Life Science associate Dean. I have flexibility within my major to enroll in Life Science option courses, and will continue to be on track with my degree requirements should I study abroad next semester. This fall semester, I am currently enrolled in five, 3.0 unit 300-level courses on the Life Sciences Major List A, which puts me on track to completing my remaining requirements in my fourth year with ease. In addition, I plan to take courses while abroad that count towards my electives for my Queen??s units.
