Re: Appeal to drop courses late
I am writing this appeal to request the following courses be dropped late:
HIST 250 (Fall-Winter 2015-2016)
PHIL 311 (Fall 2016)
PHIL 348 (Fall 2016)
PHIL 361 (Fall 2016)
PHIL 328 (Winter 2017)
During all my time at Queen's, I suffered from several health issues, both physical and mental, which had a significant impact on my studies and ability to complete coursework. It first began with a serious liver condition during my first year (2014-2015 academic year). During this same year, and on top of this, I started exhibiting mental health issues - primarily Anxiety and Depression.
These issues progressed and became more severe as time went on, causing greater disruption to my academic performance. During the latter half of the 2015-2016 academic year these issues left me unable to cope with my entire course load and as a result, I failed one of my courses. I attempted to return with a lighter course load during the 2016-2017 academic year, but my mental health issues had progressed to a point where I was unable to manage my academic duties, and I failed the three courses I took in Fall 2016, and one course in Winter 2017.
I will attach some supporting documentation from Student Wellness Services at Queen's, and Dr. Arun Ravindran from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, confirming my physical and mental health issues during the time periods outlined above.
I did not appeal or take action for these courses at the time, as my thought processes and ability to function were rather severely affected by my mental health problems. My academic future and the idea of continuing at the University were highly uncertain during that period.
Since this period, I have made great strides in treating and improving my mental and physical health, culminating in my appointment as a full-time staff member at the University of Toronto in March of 2021. I feel that the time is now right for me to return to my education and complete my degree. I would like to transfer my credits to the University of Toronto to continue my education, and it would be of considerable benefit if my transcript and GPA were no longer negatively impacted by the courses that I failed due to my health issues.
Thank you sincerely for your consideration,
Marko Piljevic
