Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Charlie Turvey, I am applying for an appeal to add three courses after the last official date to add courses for the 2021 fall semester, (September 20th). I am appealing to add only three first semester courses for now as the school year is already three weeks into its session, the three courses I am appealing to add to my enrolment are HLTH-352A-001, CWRI-397-001, as well as MAPP400A-001. As of a few days ago, on September 15th when I was adamantly pursuing to add courses to my enrolment for the fall semester, my record was shockingly on hold due to a senate sanction block from the 2020 fall and 2021 winter tuition that were both still unpaid for, to my surprise, this was a very long overdue charge. My senate sanction block was just released as of September 21st, a day after the final date to apply for courses. The senate sanction block that withheld me from altering anything on my record came to a total of 5,210.47. This was a combination of both semesters from last year, and took a few more days to circulate through the system than expected when I first found out about my senate sanction block. The reasoning for this extenuating circumstance, is due to a lack of ability to update billing information and thorough understanding of the assessed fees unpaid for throughout the extensive period of time from the first tuition charge of 2020 to current date. The reasoning for this circumstance was due to several housing movements throughout the course of last year, I am fortunate enough to receive help from my mother who has been covering my tuition, and who also moved twice in the span of these charges and is currently in the motion of moving again, the overdue charges were unseen for by both me and my provider (my mother). The billing information was incorrect several times through this course of time due to this fact, both myself and her were completely unaware of any outstanding charges, my account has been fully updated as of now. This unfortunately led to myself finding out about these charges via Solus, where I found that my record had been put on hold, I was then able to evaluate and assess the problem by going into the registrar and appeal to register with debt. I was then appointed to a 1 on 1 online session with the financial aid who eventually walked me through the proper steps, and eventually withdrew the money from my mothers account and had the senate sanction hold released. By this time I was just over the deadline to apply for enrolment in courses for this semester. By persistently working through the system and with the registrar, student advisors, as well as the financial aid team I have educated myself on how to stay up to date with certain billing information changes and how to properly manage my account moving forward for future references and circumstances. Not only do I have a better understanding of the system through the help of several teams but have become aware of how beneficial regular meetings with the financial aid and the registrar can be to me and my future here, which I plan to make mandatory in my schedule at least once per semester so no more unseen charges or debts occur again at the end of terms. Not only do I plan on extenuating my communication with the different offices regularly but also furthering my provider's communication with the school. As this was a big dilemma in this extenuating circumstance. For future references I know understand how to overview my account, my accessed fees, and any other outstanding charges that may cause problems for my record again, and also how to keep those billings to date to ensure that these critical statements are reaching the proper provider.

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: This specific circumstance is not academically related, I have ensured a plan for moving forward and learning from this experience in the conclusion of my appeal.
