Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

My name is Wilhelm and I am currently in my second year at Queen's University. I am applying because I believe the one-year academic probation is not beneficial to my learning. My first year at Queens (2020-2021) was not the best experience. Online school was very tough for me as the format in which we learned was very difficult for me. I suffered from some mental health issues and thus I ended the year with a poor GPA and failed multiple classes. The combination of covid-19 and my first yeast university experience being online along with other personal circumstances was the reason for my underachievement. I do not have a doctor's note as proof of these mental health issues I experienced. Going to someone when you're not well mentally can be very challenging and this is why I do not proof. I can swear however that I am being truthful about my mental health and take academic integrity seriously.
I believe that these circumstances resulted in my poor academic year and are not a good grasp of who I am as a student. My sole desire is to continue my education this fall at Queens and prove to not only the school but myself that I can be successful. I only ask for a chance to rewrite my wrongs. I think that this year will be different for the following reasons; Firstly, I am past my mental health issues from last year. I can now focus on school without any mental blocks that stop me from doing so. Secondly, most of my classes will be in person which caters to my learning style much more. One of the best things I learned in high school was myself in a way. The high school helped me realize what helps me to focus better and what situations benefit my learning. I realized that I am a very hands-on person, which an online learning environment does not benefit. I believe I will thrive this year because of this change.
Lastly, I feel much more motivated as well as excited to study Politics at Queens than ever before. I am so excited to go to my first in-person class and go to the library and study for the first time and so on. University is such a new experience that my parents and peers always told me about as a kid. I have dreamed of going to this school like my parents for as long as I can remember. My last reason for the appeal is that I am in Queens right now paying to live here. I cannot afford to live in Kingston for a year if I'm not spending it here for school.
All I ask is to have another chance and study in a true Queens environment.
