Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am writing an appeal to request approval of late registration. I previously had to send an appeal to lift the hold on my SOLUS account and register with debt. There was a hold due to financial complications. My appeal to register with debt has been approved and the amount owing is being paid. Now, that I can have the hold lifted I would like to enroll in my courses for this year, please.

There were extenuating circumstances, health conditions, and personal events beyond my control initially which have affected my academic progress and paying my tuition for the previous academic year. I could not send the appeal earlier in the summer because I had to focus on paying National Student Loans first. I had to focus on those payments, or I would not be able to receive financial aid from OSAP to continue school this year. Regardless of not being finished my studies, I had to make payments. This resulted in my appeal being sent in later.

Once I sent my appeal. I had no other option but to wait for the approval. I did not get my approval before September 20th. So, I would like to request enrolling in at least two fall courses. On my appeal to register, I included the courses I planned on enrolling in. It will only be two courses for the semester because I am a student with disabilities. It will still be considered a full-time student. I would like to enroll in the course CHEM 212 and ENGL 290. I understand I will have a lot of catching up to do, but I will put in the work to catch up. CHEM 212 and ENGL 290 are courses I was previously in and did not complete successfully because it was a complicated year receiving my diagnosis of temporal lobe epilepsy and possible brain surgery. I have notes and material for the courses already. So, I will not be too far behind. I am contacting the department and the instructors individually for permission as well. CHEM 212 Lecture 001 and lab section 002. ENGL 290 lecture 001.

My medical conditions and a previous assault delayed my progress and academics. I have been at school for more than four years because of several things I had no control of. However, I still am trying to complete what I started, to do it successfully, and reach my end goal. If I can not add any courses this semester, I will have to stay another two years to complete the plan made with my academic advisor. I would not be able to graduate in December 2022. Please consider my request I would like to continue my academics and not be held back due to certain complications and issues out of my hands. I will catch up.

Thank you,

Jenelle Hogarth

Academic Plan

Academic Plan: Option 1 (General Degree Science CHEM)

Assuming that you successfully complete CHEM 281 and all of your fall term classes, you take MATH 121, PHYS 118 and CHEM 321 in the winter term only (and successfully completed those courses), that would leave you with these courses left to go for the Bachelor of Science degree:

CHEM 212
CHEM 221
CHEM 223
CHEM 398
3.0 units of CHEM at the 300 level
6.0 units of elective courses

If you took 2 of these courses next fall, 2 courses next winter, 2 in the following spring and one in the following fall you could graduate by December 2022.

Option 2 (General Degree Arts CHEM)

Assuming that you successfully complete CHEM 281 and all of your fall term classes, you take MATH 121, PHYS 118 and CHEM 321 in the winter term only (and successfully completed those courses), that would leave you with these courses left to go for the Bachelor of Arts degree:

6.0 units in CHEM at any level
15.0 units of elective courses

If you took 2 of these courses next fall, 2 courses next winter, 2 in the following spring and one in the following fall you could graduate by December 2022.
