Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: 22 September, 2021

Dear Dr Jenn Stephenson,

I would like to open my letter of appeal with a sincere apology and would like to ask that you reconsider your decision to suspend me for a year. I am aware of and understand the seriousness of your decision and I certainly was remiss and not concentrating enough on my courses. I would like to take this opportunity to explain a little about what I was doing and where my attention has been focussed over the last few months. This is not meant as an excuse but as an explanation.

Coming from Vietnam I was aware that last year my country was doing quite well under the pandemic. In fact, I was very proud of what the people had achieved and how they had prevented and slowed the spread of Covid in the country. However, with the delta variant going through the country so quickly this year, things changed dramatically and I got side tracked in conversations and actions trying to do my best to help people in Vietnam.

I have been working on auctioning art work to support and contribute to doctors and nurses on the frontline in Vietnam. I attach a few photographs and testimonials for your information and as evidence. I also created a Facebook and Instagram fan page and coordinated three separate art auctions that raised CAD 160,000 in total. The proceeds all went towards assisting doctors, nurses, and patients with appropriate medical equipments and food.

Through my efforts, I was able to help donate to the Medical University Hospital of Ho Chi Minh City and Tam Anh Hospital and to support with the volunteer work.

By taking less time off from school last year, I was also able to explore my career paths by doing multiple internships in Vietnam in different industries (Malls, E-commerce company, Silicon Valley Tech Startups). I devoted a lot of my time diving into the real world to gain real life experience that may teach me even more than what I can ever know. Bottom line being, I wasn??t just sitting at home doing nothing because the pandemic didn??t allow me to be in Canada.

As I expressed above, this is what has been uppermost in my mind of late and I feel embarrassed and sad that I neglected my studies so much as a result. I do believe I have the ability to succeed and this ?shock?? has awakened me into being better organised. I will most certainly work better and harder to meet deadlines and improve the quality of my work, should you be obliging and kind enough to consider my appeal and reverse your decision.

I do hope this explanation gives you a bit of insight into what has been going on and into what has been taking up my concentration and time. I politely ask for your consideration following this letter.
I would promise to make up the work in a quality fashion and prove myself to be a positive force within Queens.
