Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To the Associate Deans (Academic),

I am appealing to take third year courses away on a letter of permission. I hope to study abroad during the Winter 2022 Semester at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) in Barcelona, Spain.

I plan to take elective courses that relate to my Bachelor of Science degree that are not offered at Queen??s University, such as ??Building a Brain? which is a course I want to take that integrates the history of the nervous system with artificial intelligence. Some reasons why I want to study abroad include meeting new people, exploring a new culture and country, and learning in small in-person classes. I value the courses Queen??s has to offer and the amazing opportunities the university provides, however, being online for most of my university experience has made me excited about studying abroad and I really look forward to travelling to another country to learn in a new environment. In addition to the science-based electives I plan on taking, UPF offers a few courses that focus on the history of art in Spain. I think this would be an amazing opportunity to explore the incredible art throughout Spain while also getting experience in a field that isn??t the sciences and expand my knowledge and interests. While abroad I will take 5 elective courses.

I have discussed my courses and plan of action with a study abroad coordinator to ensure I remain on track for graduation. Additionally, I have attached written permission from the Undergraduate Chair of Life Sciences granting me their approval of my plan to study on exchange. I am in great academic standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.82, the courses I will be taking will fulfill my concentration requirements. I would greatly appreciate if you would consider granting my appeal to complete the third year of my Bachelor of Science (Hons) degree at Pompeu Fabra University this Winter 2022 Semester.
