Petition Letter
Petition Letter: October 6, 2021
Dear appeals committee,
I am writing to request enrollment in the courses MUSC 412, 415, and 420. At the beginning of the pandemic, I returned home to the United States to live with my family. During that time, I decided to apply for permanent residency status in the US. I did not anticipate how long the process would take, and it ended up almost completely interrupting my studies. However, after talking with the administrators in the music faculty during the first week of classes, I decided to abandon the process and return to Canada to study in-person.
Given my circumstances up until that point, I had no idea that I would be returning to campus so soon, and thus moving back was a big life change for me. Since moving back to Kingston, I have had to find living accommodations at a great personal and financial cost. Worrying about that on top of my coursework and securing a job to help provide me with the means to live here was a contributing factor as to why I was not able to enroll in these courses.
As an aspiring professional musician, the aforementioned courses are imperative to my success since they all focus on my development not only as an individual player, but also a team member. In particular, MUSC 420 is a required course for completing my BMus degree.
Thank you for taking the time to read this appeal.
Warm Regards,
Mateo Ronderos

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: I intend to complete my BMus degree by taking an extra fifth year to make up for lost time and experience in-person. By being enrolled in MUSC 412, 415, and 420, I will be able to complete my studies within this timeframe without having to worry about taking additional courses in my final year. This will increase my chances at getting into a master's program at top conservatories or music schools since it will grant me more time to prepare my audition materials.
