Swapping CISC 474 for CISC 455
October 8, 2021
Dear Associate Dean:
I am writing this letter in the hopes that I can appeal CISC 474 (Reinforcement Learning Fall, 2021) and swap it for CISC 455 (Evolutionary Optimization and Learning Fall, 2021).
The academic deadline has passed but the Computing department updated their site improperly and I received misinformation about my degree requirements. I am trying to fix it now and make it easier on myself for the final year. I has been a very difficult university journey and I am trying to finalize everything, very not helpful having the Queen's site display incorrect information. I can catch up in the swapped course, nothing has been evaluated yet as well. I would really appreciate some lenience here as Queen's has put me in a difficult position this year for various reasons and this would really be helpful. Another reason I missed the deadline and was so caught up In my life is because I had a loss in my immediate family, rushed back to Toronto, and became very busy the weeks around the deadline. I don't like speaking of it much, it also affected my first quiz in 474 returning back to Kingston. I am also unvaccinated and the 455 course has less in person evaluations making it safer for myself and everyone. I have been dealing with a lot and could really use this swap. Hope this is enough to appeal this.
Sincerely,
Matthew Rezkalla

New Information: I also wanted to add that my academic advisor Karen Knight also supports this. Overall it would be really helpful and I think under the circumstances I faced, it is fair to swap me in. Really hope this can work.
Best,
Matthew
