Appeal Letter
Appeal Letter: Dear Associate Dean,
I appreciate your kindness and consideration of my appeal and my circumstances, after reading your response to my appeal carefully I have taken into consideration the amendments to the letter that I should have made meaning that I now understand that I should have applied for a drop instead of an extension of an IN.
However I did not know how much the situation would persist and knowing what I know now back then, that is what I initially would have done. I had in full faith believed that the situation which I had previously mentioned in my last appeal would get better and I would be able to complete the course. I had not realized that not only was this an option but that through out the summer I would suffer with my mental health to the point of needing to seek out private care or that there would be deaths in my family from close loved ones, or that my physical health would deteriorate.
I understand that this is a lot asking from the professor and while it made sense for my academic situation under your recommendation I believe a drop is the right way to go for my academic situation.
Some steps have taken to ensure that this does not happen again is taking a reduced course load this semester for me to catchup on my work, seeing the proper medical professionals in order for me to receive the best treatment for my physical and mental health. Additionally after this semester I am finished all of my degree requirements besides this class thus I would have all of next semester to be able to complete the course work for DEVS 221 (to which I have now re enrolled in or will enroll in another Devs 200 level requirement of the same value). As this is the onluy course left to fill I have the time from January to April 2022 tio put my full attention on the course. Given the situation I do hope you can appreciate that in hind site this is what I should have done but realize I was misinformed, had good intentions of fulfilling my academic requirements but all the while the environmental factors that were occurring in my life were out of my control and taking a strenuous toll on my health and wellbeing.
Thanks so much,
Maria Menzies
