Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To Whom it may concern,
I am requesting to appeal to late drop ARTH 319, COMM 201, FILM 394 from Winter 2021, and ARTH 422 from Fall 2020.
During the last academic year, I experienced significant extenuating circumstances that were beyond my control. These circumstances, coupled with my situation as a single parent with no external support in the midst of Covid, impacted my mental health, overall wellbeing and physical condition. It became increasingly difficult over the Fall term to focus and concentrate, and I was not able to complete my academics as I normally would. If you look into my past GPA, you can see that I was very academically successful up to that point, and these circumstances significantly impacted my ability to succeed. My daily functioning was significantly reduced by winter term, and I needed to take a break from academics. Some of this impact included increased panic, stress and sleep issues which limited activities of daily living. Covid exacerbated these symptoms and limitations. During that time I met with doctors and mental health therapists. It's been very difficult for me to write this letter, which is why I am submitting it at this time. Much of what was going on was very personal and confidential and therefore my therapist has advised me that it's not necessary to disclose details.
I continue to work to better my situation so that I am able to be academically successful, by continuing to meet with therapeutic supports. I have been adjusting and managing these circumstances in different ways so that they do not impede my academic progress, and the impact of Covid is no longer putting undue stress on my situation of being a single parent. I am also now connected with Qsas and I am working with them to identify appropriate accommodations. I have also decided to take a lighter course load this year in order to ensure that I can manage and complete my courses successfully.
