Petition Letter

Petition Letter: I am appealing to drop the course SOCY 352 without academic penalty. I became physically ill the afternoon of November 1st and spent the entire afternoon/night in a walk-in-clinic and then the emergency room. Due to this I was not able to drop the course from my schedule as I did not have access to my laptop at this time and was physically unwell. I am currently unhappy with my mark in SOCY 352 and I believe dropping this course will be beneficial in the long term, as I do not want a bad grade on my record. If I keep this course I am worried it will bring down my GPA significantly and would therefore like to drop it without penalty. I am doing poorly in this course because I did not do well on an essay that is worth a large portion of my final grade. The week this essay was due, the exact date was October 8th, I was also ill. I also had to go to the emergency room in this scenario and had to go on antibiotics in order to recover. I was ill for over an entire week therefore, October 6th-October 15th. Due to this illness I did poorly on the essay and for that reason I would like to drop the course. I put in a request for extenuating circumstances which was approved. I got extra time to complete the essay however, I was only given two extra days meaning I was still ill. I have since reached out to my academic advisor, the Queen's Arts and Science support line, my own personal physician and an additional healthcare practitioner.
