Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hello,

My name is Marisa Pizzolato and I am asking that the drop deadline for my German course be extended to allow me to drop without academic penalty.


I am doing extremely well in my other subjects and have work hard this semester to stay on top of my work, and my mental health but German seemed to be something I was struggling to get done and it was causing me significant anxiety. I spoke with my parents about dropping it and they agreed that because of my mental health I should.

I have recently become under the care of a Psychiatrist and at my appointment a week ago was diagnosed with Major Depressive Disorder, General Anxiety Disorder and ADHD. They are adjusting my meds for my depression and anxiety and will be starting me on meds for ADHD. This letter will soon be submitted to Wellness Services so that they are aware of my recent diagnosis.

I had intended to drop German, but with so much happening and my new diagnosis I was overwhelmed and when I went to drop it I discovered I missed the deadline.

I am so proud of the hard work I have put into my work this semester, and of finally getting my mental health to a point where I am managing I don't want this to set me back.

I know I need to be more mindful of university deadlines and my responsibilities and promise to do this going forward. I know I can't use this as a fall back but ask please that you consider my appeal.
