I am writing this letter to request having a course from the first term removed from my transcript. This course is the Fundamentals of Academic Essay Writing. The grade I received in this course will negatively affect my transcript and my ability to apply to my desired/dream master's program, or my ability to transfer to a school closer to my home to support my family through a difficult transition. Due to extenuating circumstances, my marks in this class weren??t as good as I had planned. To compensate for taking only four courses in the last winter term, I enrolled in WRIT 125 in the summer term to improve my writing skills and raise my GPA. However, family issues such as parents considering divorce, my grandfather being diagnosed with terminal cancer, and my sister being diagnosed with anorexia were much higher in my mind than my course.
At the age of seven, I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder, and severe obsessive-compulsive disorder. A side effect of the medication I use to treat these mental illnesses is depression. There have been several time periods where I have become deeply depressed. After months of being stable, my mental health slipped due to the triggers above. Most bouts of my depression occur in times of intense isolation, and external stressors (such as family life). Spending time figuring out university in person, having panic attacks over grades, and living at home while all these terrible things were occurring made me become very depressed. I spent a lot of time sleeping and found it hard to balance doing my coursework, working, and assisting my family given my state of mind. I was very blindsided by all the issues in my family when I returned home in spring and by the time I realized I wasn??t capable of completing my work it was too late to drop. The times I wasn??t having panic attacks or being depressed I was helping my sister, grandfather, and mother work through terrible times in their lives. Please understand that it is already challenging enough to do university work with my mental illnesses, and that spring and summer were filled with stressors that make them worse. I continue to work with my therapist, take different medications, and continue to ask for support from friends when needed. I do not believe my mark in WRIT 125 reflects my ambition as a student, and who I am as a person. Down below are the contacts of my therapist who can verify this information.
Thank you.
