Petition Letter: Hello,
This past semester has been a very difficult time for me in terms of academics, mental health, and physical health. I have tried really hard in my classes to stay caught up but sometimes it just isn't possible and unfortunately in the course I wish to drop that is the case.
Back in September my grandfather got really really sick and has been put into palliative care and remains there currently. With the constant fear that he will not make it another day has been very hard on me emotionally. Due to the fact that my grandfather also lives in another province (or halfway across Canada) there is also that underlying fear I may never see him again which has been a huge burden on me as well.
I suffer from depression and have for years but this semester particularly, with news about my grandfather, as well as personal relationship issues, my depression has been at an all-time low. I find it hard to leave my bed most mornings and when I do I feel like I'm not even in my own body, just watching myself from above which has never really been an issue until recently. My depression has gotten in the way of many of my assignments and classwork this semester unfortunately but I feel like this class has gotten the worst of it from me. I just started taking a new medication for my depression so hopefully it gets better soon but in the meantime I am having a very difficult time.
My physical health has not been great either this semester. I suffer from chronic migraines and I have been unfortunately getting them more than usual this semester estimating at about one a week. I also have gallstones and have unfortunately had many gallbladder attacks this semester as well which both put me out of commission for at least a day. While the migraines currently don't have a cure, I do have a prescription that I take when I get them, however it makes me sleep. For the gallbladder issue I've been in touch with a surgeon so hopefully that doesn't last too much longer, however while it is still an issue, it has made going to class very difficult.
For these reasons, I hope that you will consider and understand why I am appealing this course and why I would like to be able to drop it without any academic penalty.
Many thanks,
Emily Whitehouse
