Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I would like to request an appeal regarding the ability to drop my MATH 225 course after the course drop deadline. The primary reason I want to do this is that I got a failing grade on my second quiz. The reason I would consider appealing this is because I was sick for the whole week before the test, which was on Friday October the 29th. This week was especially bad for my studies in MATH 225 because neither the lectures, nor notes are available on ONQ for this course meaning that I was wholly unprepared for when I ended up taking the test on November 2nd. I took the test late because I applied for academic consideration for the original day of the test. While this did give me more time to prepare I was still quite sick and not completely sure how to approach studying for the test. This is my fault for not reaching out to my professor earlier and requesting for more assistance for my studies; however, at the time I felt like I was preparing well, even though looking back now I was not studying the right things for my test.

With this failing grade on my second quiz I feel like it is impossible for me to recover my grade for the course, because there are only 3 quizzes and the final exam that contribute to 90% of the final grade.

In addition to this, I feel like I have taken too many strenuous courses this year, with 3 mandatory CISC courses, one STAT course and the aforementioned MATH course. This means that I have had to prioritize my CISC courses, as it is my major, and thus let my grades slip in MATH 225. This is not by choice, however, I currently feel like I lack the ability to keep up with so many tough courses and by dropping MATH 225 I feel like I will significantly increase my chances of doing well in my other courses this semester.

Thus I would greatly appreciate if I could drop MATH 225 as soon as possible, so I can focus my studies on my courses for my major.
