Petition Letter: Dear Dr. Jill Atkinson,
My name is Trinity Allen and I am a second year Arts and Science student here at Queen??s University. I am writing you to appeal the drop of PHIL 260 (Logic). Due to extenuating circumstances this semester, I have found myself struggling with both my physical and mental well-being.
Starting around the last week of September I started experiencing oncoming, severe chest and heart pains/palpitations. I visited the doctors and was given countless tests, x-rays, scans and monitors. This required multiple hospital trips, doctors appointments and visits to labs to obtain blood work. All these appointments meant I was missing quite a few days of school which then began triggering my preexisting mental health issues. After being diagnosed with 3 different mental health disorders this past summer I could feel the symptoms of them increasing as my physical health was declining and my school work fell behind. My physical health began getting worse around the end of October, beginning of November as I was taken to the hospital straight from the doctors due to my heart rate and blood pressure being so abnormally low. From there I was given a doctors note to take a week off work and school. I found myself particularly behind in PHIL 260 as the professor says in order to understand and do well in the course, we must attribute an hour of each day to studying the textbook and then additional time on the work. With all the hours spent tending to my mental and physical health I struggled to find time for all my other classes with PHIL 260 on top of it all. PHIL 260 is a prerequisite for my Philosophy major therefore it is a class I want to do well in and fully grasp its concepts. I feel with the circumstances I have found myself in this semester I was unable to do that. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to drop this course and retake it the following year so I can strive in it and apply the information taught to the other courses within my major.
Thank you for taking the time to go over my appeal. If you have any further questions or concerns about the circumstances listed I would be more than happy to further explain. Thank you again and hope you are well.
