Petition Letter: Hi there
I would like to drop SOCY122 AB.
I am enrolled in Bachelor of music and I took SOCY122 as an elective course because I expected to enjoy it. Unfortunately that was not the case as transitioning back into in person classes was much more difficult than expected. I have found the transition back to in person classes very difficult to deal with mentally and it has been affecting my overall wellbeing. (ie: lack of sleep due to stress and classwork, trouble focusing on my required major courses, and an overall drop in my mental health). Honestly, I would have attempted to drop it earlier but I have been so overwhelmed that it has been put off until now.
I know that it will not receive the attention it deserves should I remain in the course and I feel that that would be unfair to both myself and the instructors who deserve students who truly want/are able to be there.
Possibly most importantly, there is a history of depression and unstable mental health in my immediate family and I am a little afraid that if I stay in this course, I will trigger it in myself. This is a serious issue in my life that I would like to avoid if possible. I have seen people very close to me go down very dark paths. I would be very grateful if you could help me turn back toward a brighter road.
Thank you in advance for your help. I appreciate your consideration.
