New Information: I am appealing to drop PHAR 380 after the Queen??s academic drop date of Nov 2nd. In August 2020 my father passed after a long battle with colon cancer. Admist the pandemic it has been hard to continue on in the role of a caretaker for my family throughout the grieving process.
I have always been able to compartmentalize my own thoughts and feelings in order to remain focused on school, work and family. But I have finally reached a point where my coping mechanisms have begun to fail and at the start of November began to struggle with staying motivated and maintaining a work life balance. The course that was affected most was PHAR 380, where I missed the final test on Nov 22nd and have not been able to organize myself to complete the final paper for Dec 3rd. It has taken too much time and energy to even find the motivation to get out of bed and out of the house for work lately while still supporting my mom who has been dealing with her own grief and anxiety. Even my other course work and performance this semester has not been what it normally is with interest and productivity compared to prior semesters but I??ve managed to complete all tasks so far unlike PHAR 380 and the missed test/remaining paper (30%). The missed test was worth enough (11.67%) to negatively impact my mark and will have an impact on my current GPA with the now added stress that if I can??t drop the course, future applications for competitive graduate programs/professional programs will be impacted due to the nature of reviewing the last 60 completed credits.
I am currently in the process of searching for supports in the form of bereavement counselling, and time off/reduced work hours to be able to finally take care of myself.
I would be able to provide proof of my father??s passing with a death certificate but do not have further documentation in relation to my current mental health as I am only now beginning the process of seeking support.
Thank you for your consideration.
