Petition Letter

Petition Letter: Hello,

I am requesting an academic appeal to drop ANAT 100 in the Fall 2021 semester. I am choosing to drop this course due to my inability to complete course assessments on the basis of emotional distress upon the death of a family member. This event occurred in the first week of October - prior to, this individual was severely ill. As a result of the death, I chose to leave Kingston and return home for the duration of 3 weeks in order to support the needs of my family members, as well as my own personal grieving.
This event evidently set me back in my studies this semester. I was very much distraught and disengaged from my academic responsibilities, as I chose to prioritize my emotional well-being. Upon returning to Kingston at the end of October, I was able to evaluate my lack of progress in several courses. I chose to drop 2 courses from my fall semester, however I was hesitant to drop ANAT 100 as it was required for my degree program. My next course of action was to email the professor, as well as schedule an appointment with the SKHS academic advisor to discuss next steps. Given how far behind I was in the course at this point, we concluded that the best decision would be to drop the course. Upon emailing the ANAT 100 course administrator, they had notified me that I was to fill out an academic appeal to drop the course.
I intend on completing this course in the Winter 2022 semester. Although, I was academically unsuccessful this semester, I have developed better coping strategies and grit to complete my required tasks. This extenuating circumstance was most certainly not in my control, however, it had taken a heavy toll on me and my academic success.

Thank you for considering my appeal.
