Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Throughout this semester I??ve been struggling with mental health issues including increased feelings of anxiety and depression. This has affected my ability to focus on my academics and I have not been able to perform to the best of my abilities. I do always prioritize school and have been to adequately keep up in most of my courses despite what I have been going through. My grades are significantly lower this semester than ever before as I have always held a GPA of at least 3.0 and I do not believe this is the case in my current semester. I have been struggling the most with my COMM 211 Financial Accounting course. I fell behind early in the course as the content is heavy each week and there are weekly homework assignments to keep up with. I??ve been trying to catch up since I fell behind and was confident in my ability but as the final project and exam are approaching, and I am still struggling with my mental health, I am not confident in my abilities to succeed in this course. This is extremely unlike me and a direct reflection of my mental health, not my academic abilities nor my work ethic or drive. I??ve never failed or dropped a course and I have been proud of how well I have done in my academic career. As this is so out of character for me, I request an exception to be made to allow me to drop the course. Dropping the course would allow me to ensure my current struggle does not heavily impact my academics as I am seeking help, and I believe my mental health will improve with one less thing to stress about on my plate.
