Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: I am appealing the Faculty's decision that I drop HIST104. My OSAP application for the current 2021-2022 year was delayed due to issues regarding my parental information. I did not intend to drop this class before the financial penalty (November 1st) but the delay in my OSAP application resulted in issues that took time away and prevented me from being able to pay rent for the month of November/December and supply food for myself near the time that a major assignment was due for this class.

The senior Awards Officer, Angela Street personally helped me update my OSAP forms to speed up the process of my OSAP application but since my application was delayed, it interfered with my ability to complete this major assignment. I received financial assistance from my mother during the month of November but the NSLSC took the remainder of that money out of my bank account on the last week of that month, seriously taking time away from HIST104. My mother is a single mom of 3 children (excluding myself) in Toronto so it is very difficult for her to support me financially. During the time of writing this letter (December 3), I still do not have my OSAP funds to, pay for rent, pay my student funds or pay for food.

I had a meeting with an academic advisor on December 2nd named Angie Clark, who provided me with on-campus services to support me with my mental health, food, and financial support. She followed up our meeting by sending me services and contacts that I plan to use for the next semester since this issue was very significant.

I plan to major in Film and Media so I do not want to drop that class and I am not dropping any of the remaining courses (DEVS100, HIST108, EMPR100) because they did not have any major assignments for me to work on during the time of this issue.
