Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: In mid-November contracted the COVID-19 virus and it has had a devastating effect on my health and well-being. I have previously been receiving treatment for Non-Hodgkin??s Lymphoma cancer that I was diagnosed with in the winter of 2020. This meant that I must take an immunosuppressant that makes it very difficult to fight off the COVID-19 virus. Soon after I got my positive COVID-19 test result, I became very ill and was admitted to the hospital to be monitored and taken under the care of a medical professional. I am still very sick and believe that I am in no condition to write a final examination at this point in time.

I am currently under academic consideration for extenuating circumstances that accommodates me throughout the time including my first examination this term, for CHEm213. I request Agregrot Standing as I do not want to dismiss all of the hard work that I have done in the CHEM213 course thus far, however, the examination, that is upcoming soon, would not be an accurate reflection of my knowledge and capabilities to perform my understanding of the course material. I have worked hard in this course thus far and regret that I have gotten sick and cannot write the final examination. I hope that this accommodation and appeal will be granted as I aim to take care of my health and manage my academics.

I request Agregrot Standing for this course and not others as I believe there is some time before my other examinations to get proper treatment, take care of my health, and not be contagious with the virus and get other people sick. I think that with this time, I will make a full recovery soon. I aim to be better and well enough to write my other term exam which is later in the exam season. I must prioritize my health at this moment and would appreciate the approval of this appeal to ease the stress of my academics as I recover and get medical treatment for my illness. I really do not believe I am well enough to write the exam and would appreciate it if I am not penalized due to the health concerns that have arisen. My aim is to write my other examination later this month and I will communicate further with the exam office to make arrangements if something comes up and this is not possible.
