Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Dear faculty,
I am submitting an academic appeal after the deadline due to a poor grade which I feel does not represent who I am as a student. This semester was a huge challenge for me as it was both my first time on my own and my first time managing in-person and online classes. My first year was at home and completely online, so while there I had both the privilege of having my family cook meals do other things around the house as well as be there for support when I was having challenges in classes. This semester however I was in person and had to get my own apartment. I underestimated the challenges that would come from managing living by myself and managing a full course load. I believe that this would have been different if not for the pandemic and first year being online as I would have been exposed to all of this then. In hindsight, I should have taken one less course this first semester to ease myself into the full university life but I felt pressured to keep on track with my program. This took a huge toll on my mental health and academic performance, which is why I am here for the appeal. I am not asking for all of my courses because I have done ok in them but because of the stress, I felt from managing them I did not do well in this course. (CISC 203) I really want to continue my studies as I am a very curious student with a passion for learning but I think that missing the first year and jumping into the deep end this year caught me off guard because of the pandemic and being online first year. Moving into the next semesters I have already set up ways of coping better with the whole situation and my mental health, so I really hope this one course can be dropped so as to not affect my academic career.
