Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello, I am requesting to drop a course after the one-term deadline. In my first year, the only person who was looking after me ended up passing away, and due to this, I developed depression. Though this was the normal grief period, there were other circumstances that resulted in me being able to grieve (such as having to take care of my younger brothers, one who has behavioural issues). In my following second and third year, I developed Major Depressive Disorder and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. They got rather severe to the point where I nearly dropped out of university, but COVID occurred and I was able to go home and heal while taking online courses. The reason I am appealing my course so late is because of a heavy lack of motivation and severe anxiety that caused me to have panic attacks at the thought of my trauma. With the help of therapists, counsellors, and psychiatrists, I was able to get the help I needed and now in my fifth year, I feel strong enough and comfortable enough to finally address the issue in a proper and appropriate manner.
I am a little unsure of how the appeal process works, but I believe this late request must be accepted first before I can appeal for the specific course, so I will write a separate appeal for that.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Originally, I was in a generalized psychology plan and due to poor mental health and grades, I was unable to switch to any other degree. This meant that I would have been unable to stay in my concurrent education plan as I was not in an honours degree. My second and third years were really rough, and due to my mental health, my academics reflected this. However, I did not want to continue to remain on such a path and so I took the steps I needed to get help. I pushed myself to speak to several counsellors, therapists, and psychiatrists in order to work on myself. We went through many crisis strategies and cognitive behavioural therapy. I also started anti-depressants and focused a lot on strengthening my mental health.
In my fourth year, I was feeling a little better and then began to take steps to improve my academics. I was not going to let my trauma ruin the rest of my life. I spoke to several academic advisors and we made plans to switch from a general psychology degree into an honours degree. I worked very hard and contacted professors and heads of boards. With the math and biology departments approval, I was able to switch into the BIMA program, which also means I was able to stay in my concurrent education degree. I am currently on track to graduate with the BIMA degree by the end of this year and hopefully graduate with the concurrent education degree by the end of next school years summer.
I have been able to work hard and achieve a B average in my biology subjects, however, my math ones are not as strong. While I am on the right path to get that B average by next semester, I would like to help raise that mark by dropping the Math course I failed in my third year. I feel like my second and third year marks truly don't represent me as a person, and while I cannot take back the rough years that I had, I want to do my best to fix what I can and work on what I can. I need a B average in my math and biology subjects because it is a requirement to get into the Intermediate/Senior sector of concurrent education.
