Petition Letter: Dear Associate Dean Dr. Atkinson,
My name is Natasha Salpeter, and I am a third-year Bachelor of Sciences Honours student majoring in Life Sciences. I am appealing to have my exam be able to be taken online, as this format for my exam already exists.
This pandemic has been extremely difficult and has impacted many people. My mother is very immunocompromised, with a lung condition making it very scary and stressful to have the possibility of bringing home either a symptomatic or asymptomatic Covid-19 case. Especially with the rising case numbers in Kingston, especially in our Queen's community, this exam time has become extremely challenging and stressful. My course, PSYC271, is an Arts and Science Online course as it is too large of a course to have been offered in person this semester. However, my exam is being offered in person as well as online.
I have spoken to my professor, who understands the situation I am in currently. I feel that taking an exam in the comfort of my own home, as I will be returning home to my immunocompromised mother just a day after, will be much more beneficial. Because this course is already set up with Examity and the exam is already formatted online, I was hoping I would be able to take this exam online, as it is my only exam during this entire period.
I am an individual who suffers from generalized anxiety disorder and am seeing a psychologist on a regular basis to help me gear my focus to the important aspects of life. However, I feel that my performance would be better, and I would be able to have the concentration geared towards the content rather than the anxiety of wondering whether I am surrounded by asymptomatic cases, given the rise in these case numbers in our university district, if I were granted to take this exam as it is already set up, through Examity.
I have attached an email from my professor, Dr. O'Connor, who understands this concern and has provided me with the opportunity to be contacting you on this matter. I have also attached a letter from my psychologist who will speak to my mental health and wellness relating to these circumstances.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: Should this appeal be granted, my academic plan will remain the same. I will continue studying as I am in preparation for this final worth 50%. I will be spending my time studying at home and putting all my focus into understanding the content to be able to fully engage with this exam and do my best.
I will also continue seeing my psychologist so that I am able to better accommodate to situations in the next semester. This means that I will hopefully feel more comfortable and less anxious when placed in these situations however, this is an extremely challenging time for everyone.
