Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To Whom it may concern,

I am appealing to drop Women, Gender and Difference from my 2021 fall courses as this semester has been very difficult regarding on going mental health issues.

I have struggle with anxiety and depression for a large portion of my life and during this semester I experienced a great lapse in my mental health. Juggling these struggles with mental health alongside a new living environment and full time academics for the first time since 10th grade unfortunately became too much and I stopped being able to work on 5 courses at one time. I became incredibly overwhelmed as well a completely unmotivated to continue doing my school work, regrettably I feel very behind in gender studies for these reasons.

Prior to making this appeal I spoke with my professor for Women, Gender and Difference - Dr. Melissa Houghtaling who encouraged me to drop the course. She heard my circumstances and after going over a few options for my academics we ultimately decided that dropping GNDS120 would be the best course of actions. She gave me her full support in this decision.

For these reasons I am appealing to remove GNDS120 from my fall 2021 course load.

Thank you
Lailey Izadipour
