Petition Letter
Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,
I am writing this letter as an appeals letter that will be attached to an academic appeal that I intend to submit concerning courses from the Fall 2020 Semester as well as the Winter 2021 semester. As my SOLUS account can attest, those classes are currently marked as failing grades due to my incapacity to complete several bits of schoolwork and my attendance suffering. This was not due to a lack of diligence or effort on my part, but it was a result of a mix of factors including a rather severe breakdown in my mental health- something which can be attested to by professionals at SWS and who's supporting documentation will be attached to the finalized appeal. I have a few pre-existing conditions that were at the cause of this. Without going into too much detail, a severe case of depression and anxiety basically made me non-functional for most of the 2020-2021 school year, and the workload got too overwhelming, with my condition also preventing me from efficiently getting help to manage things.
I have taken steps this year to make sure that such things do not happen again, such as getting help from academic advising and coordinating with my professors whenever there was an instance of missing work or the potential for a delay caused by any kind of condition. I have also registered myself with QSAS to ensure that such circumstances, when they occur, do no affect my academic standing that much. I am continuing to see counsellors and have also been in touch with one of the Psychiatrists at SWS to maintain a more stable control over my mental health.
On recommendation from Academic Advising, I want to submit this appeal to hereby request permission for a late drop of all the classes taken during the aforementioned period, in order to guarantee that the marks from those classes do not negatively affect my transcript and graduation prospects this year.
With Regards
Olivier Champagne
