Petition Letter

Petition Letter: My name is Jenny Soer. I completed the Psych 100 exam on December 8th.?The time frame of the exam ran from 9:00am to. 12:20pm. At approximately 11:20, the exam software froze which rendered me unable to complete answers, or scroll further for planning answers. During this time, as I was instructed prior to the exam, I contacted my Head TA, Mr. Fowlie, during this ordeal to notify him. The freezing of the program coinciding with emailing my TA lasted approximately 15 minutes. I submitted my exam at around 12:30 due to this technical malfunctioning, contacting my TA for assistance, and the stress and shock that comes along with having technical difficulties on an online exam. After providing my head TA with proof of the email I sent during my exam, I was told I would still receive a 15% penalty. I am submitting this appeal to dispute this as technical difficulties, and should not be factored into the duration of the overall exam. Although I did not call ITS to report the issue, I emailed my Head TA immediately once the issue occurred. The reason I did not call ITS during my exam, is because I was in a state of shock and panic and was attempting to troubleshoot myself to resolve the problem faster (as I was told by many students that does place students on hold for a long duration of time). Each student should receive the full extent of time to complete the exam and technical difficulties outside of the student??s control should be taken into account. Additionally, not only did the frozen application detract time from completing the exam, but the overall stress and anxiety caused by an event such as this impedes this process. Due to these unfortunate and unpredictable circumstances, and in the name of academic fairness, I ask if you can kindly retract the 15% penalty from this exam. I truly appreciate your time and consideration on this issue. I hope to hear back soon.
