Petition Letter

Petition Letter: As a first-year university student at Queen??s University during 2020, I took BIOL 102 as an elective, curious about minoring in biology. However, as an economics major this elective did not do great for me as I received a 51% in the course. Because of this elective, my overall GPA is weighed down and it has caused issues getting internships and applying for academic opportunities in my current second year of study (2022). Without BIOL 102??s grade weighing my GPA down, my GPA would be stand near a 3.5, which is highly viewed for internships and future opportunities.
For my first year of university, I did not live in residence due to the global pandemic. Moreover, during my fall study in 2020 my grandfather that lives in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (a RedZone country for COVID-19) had been diagnosed with the virus. Due to his physical state, it had caused serious mental stress, and it had taken a toll on my academic performance. Today in 2022, my grandfather is doing better, and my family??s worry eased with his recovery. Adding on, in 2021 right before my second-year fall term exams I was diagnosed with Appendicitis and had to drop 3 major courses because of the mandatory surgery. The appeal number was 8462, submitted on December 8th, 2021. With that being said, I am having to take 3 courses again during the summer semester and with my first-year biology course weighing my average down, getting it removed from my academic transcript would truly open doors going forward. By not having BIOL 102, 52% grade constantly showing every time I submit for opportunities, it will mentally keep me stable and motivate me to keep pushing harder. If my appeal is granted, I will take the course PHIL 204 (Life, death, and meaning) in the summer semester amongst other courses to maintain my units for graduation. I truly hope you can understand my complicated situation and understand the mental toll BIOL 102 has on my overall academic standing. By having it removed it is going to open opportunities for grad school after my undergrad for business administration.
