Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Hello Hope all is well. I am writing this appeal letter with two requests. For context, this course had two midterms on October 20 and November 10. A close relative of mine (my uncle) passed away on October 4 and it severely impacted my ability to study for the first exam, which I then performed very poorly on. It also took a toll on my ability to keep up with the class and with that stress and being behind, the second midterm which followed up closely to the first did not go as anticipated. My other courses did not suffer as this one did because they are small assignments based and my other more exam-based course had a smaller weight distribution. This course entails two 20% midterms and one 60% final. This was the first close family member of mine to pass away, so it hit my schooling quite hard. I did not drop the course on the drop before academic penalty deadline (November 1) as I hoped to somehow do better on the second midterm after that date. I fear that the ongoing impact to my studying and the damage the midterm marks have on my current grade in addition to the COVID stresses of the new variant have made it difficult for me to do well in this course and the final. To find a solution to it, I have been in contact with student wellness services after my second midterm. After speaking with them and an academic advisor, I was told it would be worth appealing this course. Ideally, I would like to attempt to write the final exam. If I were to fail the final exam, I would want to appeal the academic drop deadline to drop the course. Opposingly if I were to pass the final exam and receive a low grade, I would want to appeal to have a credit standing. I understand I could appeal to drop the course and not take the final, but I would like to at least attempt it if possible. Thank you for your time and for taking my appeals into consideration. I look forward to discussing next steps.

Professional Letter Detail: NO DOC - I am not entirely sure what this is as I was told be an academic advisor to write the letter myself, which I highlighted on the last page.
