Petition Letter: Hello,
I have found this past semester extremely challenging from a mental health standpoint. As a result of the continued restrictions, my sleep quality was greatly impacted and I did not have the motivation or focus required to study. Consequently, although I generally enjoy learning, I was not able to keep up with the course work anywhere near the best of my ability. Since I have already graduated twice, I was just taking this course for interest; however, I am hoping to apply to graduate school in the near future, and I do not want my chances negatively impacted as a result of a poor grade. It would not be a fair representation of what I am truly capable of in a normal semester. I would have dropped my courses sooner, but I did not realize the extent of my depressive symptoms until after the financial penalty deadline had passed, and I did not want to completely waste my hard earned money.
On top of the COVID restrictions, I have also been dealing with family problems at home due to my sister's mental illness, and I have picking up more shifts at the hospital in an attempt to save for graduate school.
In summary, I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to drop this course (despite the passing of the academic deadline) given my inability to adequately sleep, concentrate, and generally be motivated to study over the past semester (characteristics that are at odds with my typical academic performance).
Thank you,
Noël
