Petition Letter: January 7th, 2022

To whom it may concern,

Re; Request to Appeal - Olivia Idone

This letter is to inform you that I am requesting to withdraw from the following fall-term courses: SOCY 302, SOCY 388, and SOCY 352.

Towards the end of November, 2021, I was diagnosed with a major depressive episode. This led to my inability to focus on minor tasks, let alone course assignments and final examinations. Specifically, I was unable to complete final assignments such as essays, research proposals, and take-home exams. In addition to my inability to concentrate, I continue to experience a lack of motivation, anhedonia, and a constant struggle with my sleep schedule. As this is my first experience dealing with a mental health issue, I am taking one day at a time and the necessary steps to overcoming this episode. Accompanying this letter is a note from my physician further explaining my diagnosis and the treatment plan she has prescribed to me.

My plan is to focus on my mental health in order to overcome my diagnosis and complete my degree to the best of my ability.
