Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To have BIOL 102 Fall 2020??s mark removed from my current 2022 transcript.

During 2020, it was my first year at Queen??s University and many things were new to me. I had stayed home in Richmond Hill, Ontario due to the dangerous levels of COVID-19 at the time. As my first year, first semester courses were all online many things were new to me. As my first semester of university proceeded with the pandemic, I was given the news that my grandfather aged 67 that lived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia was diagnosed with COVID-19. After hearing the news, my focus was on my family, hoping that they were mentally strong when hearing the news. My mental state had greatly depleted and I lost motivation in a lot of my courses due to the news my family had received. I had struggled with BIOL 102 ever since the beginning of the course, and I was not aware I was able to drop the course being new to the university guidelines. I had taken BIOL 102 as an elective as an econonmics major because I thought I would really enjoy the course, however, it proved otherwise. After hearing the news of my grandfather, my grades and motivation for BIOL 102 dropped dramatically. I ended up recieveing a 51% on the electrive I picked as an economics major student. My other four courses in that semester were not greatly affected as I had a good start in them before hearing the news. As an economics major, I was able to keep going with the other economics courses as it was my passion and priority for my pathway.
Currently, the BIOL 102 mark has negatively impacted my current second year at Queen??s University. The 51% I received, boldly pulls down my overall university GPA and has blocked opportunities with internships for my major. If my appeal to have BIOL 102??s mark removed from my transcript was granted, it would relieve a lot of stress that is ongoing ever since taking the course. I am a student with consistant As and Bs, I am apart of the economics department and society, and this mark does not describe who I am. Due to my grandfather??s physical state and his diagnosis of COVID-19, it had greatly impacted my mental wellbeing and affected my courses. I hope you are able to understand my perspective as if you were in my shoes.
Going forward, I will be taking a course called Life, Death, and Meaning in the summer to make up for the missing credits from BIOL 102??s appeal, if granted. Thank you so much, and I hope you can truly understand my situation.
