Petition Letter

Petition Letter: On November 9th 2021, my mother was diagnosed with incurable stage 4 lung cancer. A few weeks prior, I applied for and received academic consideration to defer my November exams due to an illness that caused me to be bed ridden and unable to keep up with school work and studying.
The day of my final deferred exam, I received a call to come home as my mother has been hospitalized . I then spent 10 days in the hospital with her (my parents are currently separated) while she underwent tests and I continued to fall further behind in schoolwork. During this time I was in contact with my professors and the school, keeping them apprised of the situation. Due to my circumstances and limited time to commit to studying and catching up on missed lessons, I was granted further accommodation and academic consideration. The end result was that was given permission to I defer my exams to the new year. At that time, I was confident in my work ethic and ability to catch up and prepare for my 5 exams over the next following weeks. At that time, I was not, however, aware of the level of care my mother would need once released from hospital (we also had purchased a new house pre-diagnosis and moved on Dec15th when we took possession of the home).
As her primary caregiver, I take her to all of her hospital appointments which can take up to 6 hours on appointment days. As she is on treatment, she requires assistance in many aspects of daily life- cooking cleaning, self-care. The available time to allocate to school work is not what I expected it to be when asking for the original accommodations, the reality being that I have only a couple hours a day to complete school work. My mother is currently attempting to find a care provider (it is challenging due to the pandemic and Omicron) so I can return to Kingston as quickly as possible and focus on my studies.
The current situation is that I have spread myself thin in order to maximize time to study for each of my 5 courses (CHEM281, STAT263, ENGL100, PHGY215, BCHM218). I have completed all but the final exam in PHGY215 and feel very strongly that I understand all of the content. As of today, I am fully caught up on course content, however I have not had time to physically study for the exam.
In order to manage my stress and concerns, I have reached out to a social worker via the Cancer Care center at Humber River Hospital where my mother is receiving her care, I am working on finding a therapist. I have also been in touch with Spring (academic counsellor) several times over the past few days in an attempt to come up with a plan on how to further navigate my academic plan and course needs during this overwhelming situation.
Both my mother??s health and reaching my goal of applying to medical school next year are immensely important to me. Please consider this note as a request for consideration for Aegrotat standing for PHGY215. I have succeeded in finalizing plans to complete my other courses and continue down my path towards applying to medical school. Attached you will find documentation of my mother??s hospital records and a letter from my mother. I am happy to provide any further documentation such as a letter from her oncologist.
