Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: To whom it may concern,

I would like to appeal to drop the course POLS 384 from the Fall 21 semester. Due to the exacerbation of my anxiety issues, I had extreme difficulty completing course work for all my courses. I was able to eventually complete the work for my other courses, but doing so left me with not enough time to complete the final two assignments for POLS 384, collectively worth 40%. The assignments themselves were due past the final course drop date hence why I did not drop the course beforehand. I had tried to communicate with the course instructor and TA throughout the semester to discuss my struggles, but I rarely received replies, so I was unsure about where I stood in the course until I checked my grades today (Jan 10/22) and saw that I did not pass. My anxiety issues have been uncharacteristically bad this semester, and I had to defer an exam for another course since I had an anxiety attack the morning of the scheduled exam. I have been in consultation with healthcare professionals to discuss therapy and adjusting my medication, so this should not become a recurring problem in the future. I know that this failing grade is not an accurate reflection of my academic abilities, and I would be very grateful to have the chance to retake the course without the failing grade affecting my GPA.
