To whom it may concern,
I am writing to you to request that the one term deadline for submitting an academic appeal be waived for GPHY 252 and GPHY 415. If granted, this would allow me to submit an appeal concerning the summer semester that I was unable to submit in December due to unforeseen family responsibilities emerging from the Omicron variant outbreak in Kingston.
This year, I am working full-time to support myself financially. My employment is necessary to supplement my student loans as my parents are unable to support me (dad has precarious work due to repeated layoffs through the pandemic and my mom works reduced hours as part of a stress-leave program). In fall semester, I worked hard to budget my time to prioritize my studies, and as a result, I have been successful at maintaining a 60% course load.
With that said, my studies and work schedule leave very little time to spare. I had planned to complete and submit my academic appeal during the period after my exams concluded (December 15th) and prior to the December 31st deadline, during my time staying with my grandparents. My grandparents are very important to me as they provide emotional support and a calm, clean, quiet environment. However, out of concerns for their health in the Kingston COVID-19 Omicron variant outbreak, I instead spent the full holiday period at my parents?? houses.
My parents both struggle with mental health challenges that make the holidays a difficult time for them and effect their ability to provide emotional support and a calm, clean, quiet environment. Despite working with my therapist prior to the holidays to strategize how to minimize stress during my time at home, my time and focus were largely redirected to crisis management and supporting my parents until I returned to Kingston on Friday, January 7th, returning to work and school on January 10th.
As these unforeseen and increased family responsibilities impacted my ability to submit my appeal within the one-term appeal window, I am hoping you will allow me to submit my academic appeal past the one-term deadline.
