Petition Letter
Petition Letter: Dear Dean and Associate Deans of the Faculty of Arts & Science:
I am Yushang-Shirley Huang (20062173), a third-year international student major in Psychology. I am appealing to late enroll for Psyc251 (Developmental Psychology), Psyc271 (Brain and Behaviour I), and Psyc333 (Human Sexuality).
In mid-December 2021, when I logged in to my solus account in order to enroll in classes for winter term 2022, I found myself was accidentally enrolled in classes for Fall 2021, as I thought I already dropped these classes due to my health concern. Later on, I submitted my academic appeal for a late drop. As it was close to the winter break, and I still need to provide some supplementary documents, it was not until Jan 12 that I finished all the procedures. Meanwhile, when I was trying to enroll in classes, I found there was a block on my account. At first, I thought it was due to my academic appeal, so I contacted the staff in the Academic Appeal Office to ask for a removal of the block. It was not until Jan 14 I receive the response from the Office that it was due to the outstanding balance, which related to the undropped classes that were still in process, and I need to contact the Registrar Office.
On Jan 17, I called the Registrar office (613-533-6894) as I did not know if I need to pay the tuition fees first in order to unblock the account as I did not attend any of these classes and asked for a late drop. The staff told me I need to pay the tuition fees first, in case my academic appeal did not approve. As my family is currently undergoing some financial problems, we were afraid that we could not raise enough money to pay the outstanding balance before Jan 21, which is the last day of the enrollment. Therefore, I submitted the register with debt form on Jan 17 while my family was doing its best to raise the money. Fortunately, on Jan 20 night my family successfully raised money of 20000 of the outstanding balance to unblock my account, and as I already had the money, I canceled my request for a register with debt.
I transferred the money on Jan 20 around 11:00 pm, and immediately email the receipt to fees@queensu.ca. On Jan 21 morning, I made a phone call, but the staff told me to wait until the end of the day, as it was the last day of enrollment, the school will be aware of it. Meanwhile, my bank notified me that the money already arrived on Jan 21 11:43 am, however, the balance on my solus account has not changed, nor my account was unblocked. I sent two emails to the Registrar office later that day and one on the weekend, but none of them got replied. On Jan 24, I called the Registrar office, the staff told me the money did arrive on Jan 21, but it took them a few times to post on solus in order to unblock the account. Moreover, the hold on my account was not removed until Jan 24, the time I called the Registrar office again. Right now, the only way I could enroll in classes for winter is to submit an academic appeal.
Therefore, I sincerely hope for a late enrolment for Psyc251 and Psyc 271, as I did everything I could do to enroll in classes for winter 2022. Also, due to my huge financial and mental pressure, my family and I hope I could stay with the family (they are in China) and finish school as early as possible.

Academic Plan
Academic Plan: At first, I was hoping to enroll in 5 classes for the winter term, however, the staff of Arts and Science told me that it will take about 3 weeks to process the academic appeal. As it is already week 3, when the time the academic appeal is approved, it would be reached to the midterm. Therefore, instead of enrolling in 5 courses, I enroll in 3 courses that I had enrolled in and later on dropped, as I already had the textbook, roughly knew the course content, and could find the archived syllabus online. I will follow the course schedule and read the textbook weekly while waiting for my academic appeal??s result. Also, finding students who enroll in these classes to know as much course content as I can. Moreover, I will take few classes on summer term in order to catch up. Due to my health reason, I already took a year off to receive the treatment, as I was supposed to graduate on 2021. Therefore, I sincerely ask for late enrollment as I hope I could be catch up on and do not get behind too much.
