Submit an Academic Petition or Appeal

Petition Letter: Hi there,

Upon reviewing my academic requirements to graduate in the last week, I realized that my internship credits do not apply to my degree requirements of 120 units. I've been in the process of resolving these misunderstandings with the Arts & Science faculty this week but haven't heard responses to any of my emails or my phone calls asking for support.

In the 2020-2021 school year, I was diagnosed with ADD and started receiving treatment for the first time in my life. I believe this learning disability has prevented me from being more organized in my past years and understanding my degree requirements earlier on. Also, during the 2020-2021 school year, I was on internship so I hadn't thought about my school requirements much within that year.
This year, in the first week of January I contracted COVID-19 and was sick for approximately a week with a high fever. Over the winter break I also moved back in with my parents in Toronto also lending itself to a challenging home situation since my mother has BPD (Personality Disorder). The pandemic has also made it difficult for me to earn a sufficient living to accommodate for my expenses in Kingston and has also made it challenging for me to return to Kingston since the winter break from Toronto. I believe many of these distractions have resulted in my oversight of ensuring my academic requirements were on track thus far.

I now have plans to return to Kingston for February 1 and have heard back from my past internship company to give me occasional work. To manage my home life, I've also started seeing a therapist from Queen's since the end of last semester which I believe has helped my management of stress and anxiety.
The peace of mind from my living situation should also benefit my time management and catching up with the course time I've missed so far. Since I'm in my last year, I'm applying to jobs and hoping that I can complete my degree in April as planned since I do not have the capacity at this time to afford summer rent in Kingston.

Although I am confident, I am not missing any other requirements, I am still interested in hearing back from the Arts & Science faculty so I can speak with an academic advisor to review my plan.
