Petition Letter

Petition Letter: To the Desk of: Associate Deans (Academic)

My name is Diane Juodis (student number: 20302697) and I am appealing to the instructor Jeffrey Wammes, faculty coordinator Meghan Norris, and teaching assistants' decision of my final grade for the December 2021 Exam in the course: PSYC 100- Principles of Psychology (Fall 2021).

Due to extenuating circumstances beyond my control, I was not given nor had access to the proper accommodations I required at the time, and continue to require for my disability, to effectively complete the final exam. At the time, I was dealing with a severe injury since mid- November 2021, that occupied the majority of my time being in and out of the hospital for appointments and procedures. Subsequently, my chronic disabilities increased in severity and I was unable to effectively treat those as doctors were focused on the injury at the time. I have been seeing several specialists to help with the injury and have been at home recovering as best as possible, while also addressing the worsening chronic disabilities and mental health conditions. I am also now successfully registered with the Queen??s Student Accessibility Services (QSAS) and have an academic advisor (Deb Bruce) who has been very beneficial and helpful. The action to obtain the much needed accommodations began back in November/December 2021, however were not officially obtained until most recently.

At the time of the exam in December 2021, I additionally encountered technical difficulties that were reported, resolved and documented with IT. This cut off 20 additional minutes on that exam that would have been seemingly beneficial for effective and successful completion.

I am proposing for the exam parts to be weighed equally in value (both multiple choice and short answer), or for the exam to be weighed less than its face value, and allocated to another assignment.

I seek your understanding and compassion in this manner. It has been incredibly difficult these past few months for me and I am doing the most to put my best foot forward and continue on.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Regards,

Diane Juodis
Undergraduate Student
